When choosing a new home builder it is crucial that extensive
screening be performed on any prospective builders. Builders listed with Home-Work have passed our extensive screening process. Building a new home is the single largest investment most people will ever make. Home-Work now has a good selection of Home Builders we can refer to you to suite your requirements.

2. FIND A REALTOR:
As with any renovation or construction project, the Purchase or
Sale of a home, business, or commercial property is a tremendous endeavor. It is therefore as important to have an extensive screening process done on a Realtor which will represent you. Home-Work has now added Realtors to our list of screened companies. Whether buying or selling, Home-Work can now refer a Realtor for you. Remember that using a Realtor on the purchase of a property does not cost you anything.

3. NEW HOME QUALITY MONITORING:
Is a new concept in the building industry. You can now have an
expert in the construction industry monitor the quality of the
building process from start to finish. Most people do not know
what to look for during the building process. A Quality Monitor, is an independent building expert who will monitor the progress of a new home project. Conducting up to 36 inspections, from ground breaking to final walk through, a complete report is provided from each inspection. The quality monitor will identify any issues early in the process, saving the home owner and the builder greater problems and expensive revisions down the road. The monitor will work with the home owner and the builder to resolve these issues. For any revisions or repairs identified, the monitor will conduct a follow up inspection and report to ensure the repair meets expectations. Upon completion of a new home, up to 36 inspection reports, plus follow up reports, greatly enhances the value of the home, and brings "peace of mind" to a stressful project.

3. Sidewalks, Trees, & Fences - Who's Responsible

It's a good idea to learn what rules apply if the sidewalk, trees and fence become a problem. Not all responsibility ends at the front door.Here's what you should know:
Sidewalks:
Most laws state that if you are a property owner you must make
sure passersby enjoy safe passage across walkways adjacent to your property line.
Trees:
Generally, if the trunk of a tree is completely within your property boundaries its care is your responsibility, according to attorney Cora Miner Jordan."If the trunk stands partly on the land of two or more people, it is called a boundary tree,and it belongs to all the property owners." If, however, your neighbor has a tree on his property with over-hanging branches, you have a right to trim the branches back to the property line as long as you don't work from the neighbor's property without permission, or injure/kill the tree.
Fences:
When you build a fence on your property, it's your responsibility. A fence on a property line shared by two or more neighbors both owners share an equal responsibility for keeping the fence in good repair. Likewise, no one can remove the fence without the permission of the others. There's little you can do with fences that don't meet your aesthetics, as long as the fence doesn't pose a hazard. 4. Help Your Lawn Recover From Winter

The long winter night is over and it's time to renew our lawns. In
early spring, get your lawn off to a quick start by setting your
mower a notch lower than normal to remove surface debris and any damaged grass. If you have bare spots over-seed the area with the correct type of grass. Don't throw your clippings in the
trash...they're valuable fertilizer for your lawn. Use a mulching
mower to return the clippings back into the turf as you mow.
As the weather gets warmer, raise the cutting height of your mower so that you'll be cutting no more than a third of the grass blade at one time. This will produce a healthier lawn because taller grass promotes longer roots that need less water. (Mike Ferrara, The Lazy Homeowner)

Bill: "There are a few issues we need to discuss."
Contractor: "Ah, you have our basic support option. Calls are
free for the first 90 days and $75 a call thereafter. Okay?"
Bill: "Uh... First Issue.... is the light fixtures. The bulbs
we brought with us from our old home won't fit.
Contractor: "Oh! That's easy. Those bulbs aren't plug and play.
You'll have to upgrade to the new bulbs."
Bill: "And the electrical outlets? The holes are round, not
rectangular. How do I fix that?"
Contractor: "Just uninstall and reinstall the electrical system."
Bill: "Well... I have one last problem. Sometimes, when I have
guests over, someone will flush the toilet and it won't stop. The
water pressure drops so low that the showers don't work."
Contractor: "That's a resource leakage problem. One fixture is
failing to terminate and is hogging the resources preventing
access from other fixtures."
Bill: "And how do I fix that?"
Contractor: "Well, after each flush, you all need to exit the
house, turn off the water at the street, turn it back on, reenter
the house and then you can get back to work."
Bill: "That's the last straw. What kind of product are you
selling me?"
Contractor: "Hey, if you don't like it nobody made you buy it."
Bill: "And when will this be fixed?"
Contractor: "Oh, in your next house -- which will be ready to
release sometime near the end of next year. Actually it was due
out this year, but we've had some delays..."
